In a recent development, ShirBirendra Prasad Singh, previously serving as the Assistant Controller of Patents & Designs and Group Leader of the Electrical and Electronic Group, the Indian Patent Office (IPO), Delhi, has been appointed to the posts of Technical Member (Patents), Technical Member (Trade Marks) and Technical Member (Copyrights) in the Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB). These posts requires the tutelage of an experience professional, within the disciplines of function.
Shri Birendra Prasad Singh has been associated with The Patent Office for almost 24 years now, with his proficiency in Electrical Engineering, coupled with his 15 years of service in the Indian Air Force, was executed as an Examiner of Patents & Designs, for 11 years, before being accorded with the post of Assistant Controller of Patents & Designs at The Patent Office. His contribution to the field of Patent Law is recognised primarily, with the landmark judgement of the Honble High Court of Calcutta, in Daniel AC Officine Meccaniche SPA v. Controller of Patents and Designs (AID No. 19 of 1998), where his decision regarding the validity of priority claim application by an Italian entity, was upheld by the Division Bench. Further, his experience as the Assistant Controller in administering and executing various provisions of Patent Legislations, adjudicating patent litigations and active participation in administerial development, render his appointment to the post effectively viable.
