IN QATAR
Qatar is a country in Western Asia. With economy soaring high, Qatar has the fourth highest GDP (PPP) per capita in the world and sixth highest GNI per capita as per the reports in 2020. Not only with this, Qatar has been classified as a country of very high human development with third highest HDI in the Arab World. With a high-income economy, it backed by the world’s third-largest natural gas reserves and oil reserves. Qatar is the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas, and the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide per capita.

Regaining the title of the richest country in the world in 2012 Qatar’s per capita GDP at purchasing power parity (PPP) was $106,000 (QR387,000) in 2012, helping the country retain its ranking as the world’s wealthiest nation, where it overtakes Luxembourg in 2010. The research put Qatar’s GDP at $182bn in 2012 and said it had climbed to an all-time high due to soaring gas exports and high oil prices. The same study published that Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), with assets of $115bn, was ranked 12th among the richest sovereign wealth funds in the world.

The process of patent registration in Qatar is governed by the Qatar Patent Law (No. 30 of 2006). Companies that wish to patent their inventions must meet the requirements as per Qatar Patent law.
Patents shall be available for any inventions, provided that they are new, involve an inventive step and are capable of industrial application whether they are related to new industrial products, modem industrial techniques and devices, or common industrial methods. Besides, it shall not be contradicting with the provisions of Islamic Sharia' (Law), violating the public order, ethics or national security.
The patent subject may be in the form of material product, an industrial process or a manufacturing technique. Subject to the law hereby, patentability shall not include:

Scientific theories, mathematical methods, computer programs, exercise of pure intellectual activities, or practice of a specific game;

Plants and animals’ researches, and essentially biological processes for the production of plants or animals other than microbiological processes and its productions; and

Diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical methods for the treatment of humans or animals and its productions.
